Jesus in His Own Words · Lesson 6 of 12

The Good Shepherd

The Big Idea

Jesus knows His sheep and lays down His life for them.

Before You Read

Read John 10:1–18 carefully. Ask the Lord to help you understand and respond to His Word.

Scripture

John 10:1–18 — Open this passage in your preferred Bible translation. Read it once for the main message and again for important details.

What Do You Notice?

Listen for the contrast between the shepherd, strangers, thieves, and hired hands.

Understanding the Passage

Jesus describes a relationship marked by recognition, care, and sacrifice. His sheep hear His voice because He knows them, and they learn to follow Him. Unlike the hired hand who runs from danger, the Good Shepherd lays down His life willingly. Security does not come from how strongly we cling to Him but from His faithful character.

Key Truth

Jesus knows His sheep and lays down His life for them.
