What We Believe

Grounded in God’s Word. Centered on Jesus Christ. Growing Together in Faith.

Discover the biblical truths that shape our faith, guide our worship, and inspire us to love God and serve one another.

In a world filled with competing ideas about God, truth, morality, and the meaning of life, it is important to know what we believe—and why we believe it.

Christian faith is not simply a collection of religious traditions or personal opinions. It is rooted in God’s revelation through Scripture and centered on the person and work of Jesus Christ.

At Mountain Veteran Ministries, our desire is to help people discover biblical truth, grow in their understanding of God’s Word, and develop a genuine, lasting relationship with Jesus Christ.

As a ministry of Wy’East Community Church, we share the following affirmation of faith. These convictions express our understanding of the essential teachings of Scripture and provide the theological foundation for our teaching, discipleship, and ministry.

“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”

John 17:17 (NIV)

1. The Word of God

We believe the Bible is God’s inspired, authoritative, and trustworthy Word.

The Bible consists of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments. We believe these Scriptures were verbally inspired by God and are without error in their original manuscripts.

Scripture is the supreme and final authority for determining what is true and what is right. When evaluating beliefs, teachings, moral questions, or claims about God, we look first to what He has revealed in His Word.

In matters Scripture does not address directly, we seek wisdom and understanding consistent with its teachings.

The Bible is more than an ancient religious document. It is God’s revelation to humanity, pointing us toward truth, salvation, and life in Jesus Christ.

Scripture References: 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20–21; John 17:17; Psalm 19:7–10; Hebrews 6:18.

2. The Trinity: One God in Three Persons

We believe there is one living and true God, eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Christianity teaches that there is one God, not three separate gods.

Within the one divine essence are three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Each is fully divine, equally possessing every divine perfection.

The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit work in perfect harmony in creation, providence, and redemption, fulfilling distinct yet united roles.

Although the Trinity is beyond our complete understanding, it is foundational to how Scripture reveals the nature of God.

Scripture References: Deuteronomy 6:4; Genesis 1:26; Matthew 28:19; John 1:1–3; Ephesians 4:5–6.

3. God the Father

We believe God the Father is infinite, personal, holy, wise, powerful, and loving.

God is not distant or indifferent to His creation.

He is personally concerned with humanity, acting with mercy, wisdom, justice, and love. He hears and answers prayer and remains sovereign over all things.

Most importantly, God the Father offers salvation from sin and death to those who come to Him through Jesus Christ.

His love is not merely an abstract idea. It is demonstrated through His gracious provision of salvation.

Scripture References: John 3:16; Matthew 23:9; Luke 10:21–22; 1 Peter 1:3; 1 Timothy 2:5–6.

4. Jesus Christ: Savior and Lord

We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully divine, who entered human history to accomplish our salvation.

Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.

He lived a sinless life, performed miracles, taught with divine authority, and perfectly revealed the character and purposes of God.

We believe that Jesus:

  • Died on the cross as a substitute for sinners, accomplishing atonement for sin.
  • Rose bodily from the dead, demonstrating His victory over sin and death.
  • Ascended into heaven, where He continually intercedes for His people.
  • Will personally and visibly return to earth.

Jesus Christ is not simply a remarkable teacher or moral example.

He is the Savior through whom God reconciles sinners to Himself, and the Lord whom we are called to trust and follow.

Scripture References: John 1:1; Matthew 1:18–25; Romans 3:21–26; Romans 5:6–8; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Acts 1:11; Hebrews 9:28.

5. The Holy Spirit: God’s Presence and Power

We believe the Holy Spirit works in the world to glorify Jesus Christ and bring people into a saving relationship with Him.

The Holy Spirit convicts people of sin and reveals their need for salvation. Without His work, no one would come to genuine faith in Christ.

We believe spiritual regeneration—the new birth—is the work of the Holy Spirit, not the result of water baptism or any outward religious ceremony.

When a person trusts in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit dwells within that believer.

He provides guidance, spiritual strength, and the power to grow in holiness.

Through His continuing work, believers are progressively transformed to become more like Jesus in their thoughts, actions, and love for God.

Scripture References: John 14:16–17, 26; John 16:9–14; Titus 3:5–7; Romans 8:9; Galatians 5:22–26.

6. The Human Condition and Salvation

We believe every person is created in God’s image, yet every person needs the salvation that only Jesus Christ can provide.

Humanity was created by God and for His glory.

Yet through sin, humanity fell short of God’s holy standard and became subject to physical death, spiritual separation, and eternal separation from God.

We believe all human beings possess a sinful nature and are also responsible for their own sinful choices.

No amount of personal goodness, religious activity, or human effort can justify us before God.

Salvation is possible only through Jesus Christ and His atoning death on the cross.

Those who are born again through faith in Christ, receiving Him as Savior, submitting to Him as Lord, and treasuring Him above all else, are adopted into God’s family, freed from condemnation, and given eternal life.

Genuine saving faith also produces a heartfelt turning from sin.

The Christian life is therefore not merely a one-time profession of belief. It is a continuing journey of spiritual growth, repentance, perseverance, and increasing obedience to Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.

We are called to consider ourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Scripture References: Genesis 1:26–27; Romans 3:19, 28; John 3:16; John 5:24; Romans 8:1; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Philippians 3:7–8; Hebrews 3:12–14.

7. Marriage and Sexuality

We believe God created humanity male and female and established marriage as the lifelong union of one man and one woman.

We affirm the biblical teaching that marriage is an exclusive, lifelong covenant between one man and one woman.

We believe God designed sexual intimacy to be expressed within that marriage relationship.

Consistent with the church’s understanding of Scripture, we hold that sexual conduct outside this design—including adultery, fornication, same-sex sexual conduct, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and pornography—is sinful.

The affirmation also regards attempts to change or reject one’s biological sex as contrary to God’s design.

These convictions reflect the historic moral understanding expressed in our church’s affirmation of faith.

At the same time, Scripture calls Christians to love their neighbors, treat every person with dignity, and recognize that every human being needs God’s mercy and grace.

Our responsibility is to remain faithful to what we understand Scripture to teach while demonstrating the love and compassion of Jesus Christ.

Scripture References: Genesis 1:27–28; Genesis 2:23–24; Matthew 19:4–6; Ephesians 5:24–32; 1 Corinthians 6:18–20; Luke 10:27; Romans 5:8.

8. The Church, Baptism, and the Lord’s Supper

We believe the Church is the worldwide family of all who genuinely trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

The Church is not merely a building, denomination, institution, or religious organization.

It is the body of believers who belong to Jesus Christ.

God calls Christians to gather in local congregations where they can worship together, learn His Word, encourage one another, grow in spiritual maturity, and participate in the mission of making disciples.

We believe the Christian community should help believers treasure Jesus above everything else and encourage one another toward love and good works.

Baptism

Christians should be baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as an expression of their identification with Christ and commitment to follow Him.

The Lord’s Supper

Believers should regularly share in the Lord’s Supper, remembering the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and proclaiming His death until He returns.

These practices point us toward the saving work of Christ and our shared life as His people.

Scripture References: Matthew 28:18–20; Ephesians 1:22–23; Hebrews 10:24–25; Romans 6:3–4; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26.

9. The Last Things and Our Eternal Destiny

We believe Jesus Christ will personally, visibly, and bodily return to earth to establish His kingdom.

History is not moving toward an uncertain or meaningless conclusion.

Scripture teaches that Jesus Christ will return and that God’s righteous purposes will ultimately be fulfilled.

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead and the final judgment of all humanity.

We affirm the eternal happiness of the righteous in God’s presence and the eternal misery of the wicked under judgment.

These teachings remind us both of the seriousness of sin and the extraordinary hope offered through Jesus Christ.

For those who belong to Christ, the future is ultimately grounded in God’s promises and the certainty of His victory.

Scripture References: John 14:3; Acts 1:11; Philippians 3:20; Titus 2:13; 1 Corinthians 15; Revelation 20:11–15.

What These Beliefs Mean for Everyday Life

An affirmation of faith should be more than a document that sits on a church website.

What we believe about God, Jesus Christ, the Bible, salvation, and eternity ought to shape how we live.

Our convictions should influence how we treat people, how we respond to suffering, how we make decisions, and how we understand the purpose of our lives.

But there is something even more important.

Christianity is not simply about agreeing with a statement of beliefs. It is about knowing and following Jesus Christ.

Sound doctrine matters because truth matters. Yet knowing what the Bible teaches is meant to lead us into a deeper relationship with the One to whom Scripture points.

We study God’s Word not merely to acquire information, but to know God, trust Him, obey Him, and become more like His Son.

An Invitation to Explore the Christian Faith

Perhaps you have been a Christian for years, or perhaps you are still searching for truth. Wherever you find yourself, we invite you to continue exploring.

Read the Scriptures. Ask difficult questions. Examine what Jesus actually taught. Consider the evidence for His life, death, and resurrection.

You do not need to have every answer. The invitation of Christianity is ultimately an invitation to come to Jesus Christ Himself.

Our hope at Mountain Veteran Ministries is to help you understand God’s Word, discover the truth of the Gospel, and grow in a faith rooted in Jesus Christ.
