Who Do You Say I Am?
The Big Idea
The most important question is not what the crowd says about Jesus, but who we believe Him to be.
Before You Read
Read Matthew 16:13–17 carefully. Ask the Lord to help you understand and respond to His Word.
Scripture
Matthew 16:13–17 — Open this passage in your preferred Bible translation. Read it once for the main message and again for important details.
What Do You Notice?
Jesus asks first about public opinion, then addresses His disciples personally. Peter confesses Him as the Messiah, the Son of the living God.
Understanding the Passage
Jesus does not ask for admiration alone. Peter’s confession identifies Jesus as the promised King and Son. The Father reveals what human cleverness cannot produce. Genuine discipleship starts with receiving Jesus as He truly is, rather than shaping Him to fit our preferences. The question is personal, but the answer is grounded in what God has revealed.
Key Truth
The most important question is not what the crowd says about Jesus, but who we believe Him to be.
