You Must Be Born Again

Jesus in His Own Words · Lesson 3 of 12

You Must Be Born Again

The Big Idea

New spiritual life is God’s gift, not a human achievement.

Before You Read

Read John 3:1–17 carefully. Ask the Lord to help you understand and respond to His Word.

Scripture

John 3:1–17 — Open this passage in your preferred Bible translation. Read it once for the main message and again for important details.

What Do You Notice?

Nicodemus is religious and respected, yet Jesus tells him that he needs to be born from above.

Understanding the Passage

Religious knowledge and outward morality cannot create new life. Jesus points to the work of the Spirit and to the Son of Man who will be lifted up. John 3:16 shows God’s love in the giving of His Son so believers may have eternal life. The new birth calls us away from self-reliance toward trust in Christ.

Key Truth

New spiritual life is God’s gift, not a human achievement.

Digging Deeper
