Why Did Jesus Die?

The Big Idea

Jesus gave His life to bring sinners back to God.

Before You Read

Read Mark 10:45; 1 Peter 2:21–25 carefully. Ask the Lord to help you understand and respond to His Word.

Scripture

Mark 10:45; 1 Peter 2:21–25 — Open this passage in your preferred Bible translation. Read it once for the main message and again for important details.

What Do You Notice?

Jesus speaks of giving His life as a ransom; Peter describes the suffering of the sinless Christ.

Understanding the Passage

The cross was not a tragic interruption to Jesus’ mission. He came to serve and give His life for many. Peter explains that He bore our sins and that by His wounds we are healed, pointing chiefly to our reconciliation with God and new life of righteousness. The cross shows both the gravity of sin and the depth of divine love. We respond not by trying to repay Jesus but by trusting Him.
